Genocide is not a family value
Nowadays, whenever a US organization has "family" in its name, you can bet it's a bunch of lunatic extreme-right Bush-worshippers. Think of the Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, etc. But this really takes the cake. Philip Atkinson of the "Family Security Foundation" writes:
The wisest course would have been for President Bush to use his nuclear weapons to slaughter Iraqis until they complied with his demands, or until they were all dead. [...](Warning: the page linked to above contains a graphic image of a "liberated" Iraqi boy)
If President Bush copied Julius Caesar by ordering his army to empty Iraq of Arabs and repopulate the country with Americans, he would achieve immediate results: popularity with his military; enrichment of America by converting an Arabian Iraq into an American Iraq (therefore turning it from a liability to an asset); and boost American prestiege while terrifying American enemies.
He could then follow Caesar's example and use his newfound popularity with the military to wield military power to become the first permanent president of America, and end the civil chaos caused by the continually squabbling Congress and the out-of-control Supreme Court.
President Bush can fail in his duty to himself, his country, and his God, by becoming "ex-president" Bush or he can become "President-for-Life" Bush: the conqueror of Iraq, who brings sense to the Congress and sanity to the Supreme Court. Then who would be able to stop Bush from emulating Augustus Caesar and becoming ruler of the world?
This is just stunning, and sickening. Not to mention scary as hell. How high up in the corridors of power does this type of thinking hold sway? How many people are saying: well, shit, we've already shredded the Constitution and swept away centuries of legal protections, invaded countries for their oil, and routinely torture innocent people - let's go the whole hog! Nuke 'em all and let Gawd sort 'em out!
In six short years, we have gone further down the road to fascism and a "final solution" than I would have ever thought possible. Is it too late to pull the US back from the brink?

Cheney's quest to "restore" the powers of the President to what it was under what Arthur Schlesinger called the Imperial Presidency. He thinks the Constitution, and democracy itself, made America "weak." Also, "Takeover" by Charlie Savage is a good read. As for the notion that we should "nuke em" .... I hear this more than one would expect at work, school, etc. But yes, our government is contemplating the use of nuclear weapons in the middle east. (Reply) |
