"We are not led by caudillos."

It's long been a pet peeve of mine how George Bush Junior wallows in the title of "Commander in Chief". Considering that he didn't even win the election in 2000, and had to be installed in power by his daddy's friends in the Supreme Court (and almost certainly stole the election in 2004), and considering that he blew off his minimal commitments to serve his country in a cushy champaign unit of the National Guard, and partied while better men were getting blown to bits in Vietnam, you'd think he'd cop on and tone the self-worship down a bit.

But no, the tiresome little twerp never misses an opportunity to self-aggrandize and bask in unearned respect and adulation. Which is not only incredibly annoying, but a slap in the face to the basic constitutional principles on which the US was founded, as
this editorial makes clear. (Hat tip to Sherry Chandler.)

Let's be clear. I'm a civilian. George Bush Junior is not my commander in chief. I, and everyone else in the US, are collectively his commander in chief. We don't owe allegiance to him; he owes allegiance to us. If he fails to give that allegiance, by for example shredding the Constitution and trampling on our rights, lying us into quagmire wars for the benefit of his megacorporate cronies, abandoning an American city to destruction because he didn't want to interrupt his five-week vacation, or any of a hundred other high crimes, felonies and treasons that have flowed in a never-ending torrent of sleaze, corruption and incompetence from the worst administration in history, then the Constitution provides the appropriate remedy: impeachment.

State your name for the record, Defendant-in-Chief!

Those Bush supporters are getting more and more incoherent all the time as they hurtle into insanity and terminal meltdown. It's sad, really.  (Reply)
